10 - PDHPE - Media Portrayal of Sexuality: Academic writing

In-text citations

When you discuss other people's interpretations, you must cite the original author.

Some examples of paraphrasing:

Wilkins (2007, p. 32) argues that the media affects who we become; its effects can be subtle, but real. Walsh agrees and says that young men are more vulnerable to images of idealised male bodies than we have previously realised. They even admit to self-hatred (2013).

Cox and Holdgate (2014) have investigated video games and have found that a very stereotyped type of masculinity is modelled in them which can be very confronting for some boys. Luckily, movies such as Brokeback Mountain and televvision shows such as Glee have portrayed young men in different ways (Muir, 2013).
